2019/20 Annual Report and Long Term Service Award Staff Recognition

Suzette Arruda-Santos, Executive Director of Yorktown Family Services, presents the 2019/20 Annual Report, a snapshot of the agency’s activities and financial performance along with highlights of the past year and client success stories. A Better Tomorrow Starts with Infant Mental Health

Baby Love is a 12-week group-format, evidence-based preventive intervention program of attachment theory that supports parents and caregivers in strengthening their attachment relationship with their infants. The Hospital for Sick Children supports Yorktown’s delivery of Baby Love through staff training and program consultation. Yorktown Family Services will be offering the first session of Baby Love for 2021 starting next week, on Thursday, May 13th.

This week is National Volunteer Week for 2021, and Yorktown Family Services joins the rest of the country in celebrating the contributions of time, skill, dedication and passion that volunteers give the members of our communities. Parenting in the Time of COVID – Parenting in the Early Years Program

As we approach the one-year anniversary of the start of the Stay at Home directive brought on by the COVID-19 Pandemic, parents and caregivers continue to struggle with the stress of competing demands. Parenting in the Early Years, a free parenting program, is being offered in Spanish from March 9th to April 27th, 2021, that provides parents with tips and coping strategies that can help during these challenging times.

Violence Prevention Virtual Programs: Yorktown Family Services Responds to the Shadow Pandemic

The effects of the COVID-19 global pandemic has had a profound impact on our lives. For many, the stress of juggling working from home and home-schooling the kids, the anxiety of financial difficulties due to job loss or reduced income, as well isolation from friends, family, and support networks, are taking a toll on mental health. For women and children who face domestic violence and abuse at home, the current Stay at Home order not only amplifies an already volatile situation, but also creates barriers in seeking help.

Yorktown Family Services and Toronto Police Public Safety Response Team Announce Partnership

Yorktown Family Services is  extremely proud to announce our partnership with Toronto Police Service’s Public Safety Response Team (PSRT) to link accused offenders and their families with various social services across Toronto. This is both an effective and highly strategic partnership and we want to send a congratulations and appreciation to all of the staff involved in the management and servicing of the numerous referrals. Yorktown Family Services and Humber River Hospital Announce New Partnership

Yorktown Family Services and Humber River Hospital are pleased to announce a new partnership that will support transitional age youth and young adults, ages 16 to 29, who have experienced first-episode psychosis.  Humber River Hospital will refer patients (clients) that are exiting hospital supports to Yorktown Family Services. Yorktown Family Services will provide an Individual and Family Therapist that will support the client with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp) and family therapy. Breaking up Is Hard to Do–and Hard to Go Through

Heartbreak--the pain you feel when you lose someone or something very special, or when a relationship ends, can feel like grief. In fact, some people experience similar grief reactions after a breakup, to those grieving the death of a loved one (Field, 2011). A universal concept, the same words are used to describe both the physical pain and the emotions associated with the loss of a relationship, cross-culturally.
