On August 17th, Yorktown’s West Toronto Youth Wellness Hub (WTYWH) joined our Jane St. Hub partners in hosting the 2023 Annual Summer Community BBQ. The Jane St. Hub BBQ brings the opportunity to gather with friends and make new ones, celebrate great local food and music, and have an incredible time with our community.

Mindful Fathering®: Enhancing Relationships Between Fathers and Their Loved Ones

Yorktown Family Services’ Mindful Fathering program is a weekly group for fathers who have demonstrated abusive behaviours towards their loved ones, particularly their children and (ex)-partner, and are wanting to enhance their relationship with them.

Violence Against Women Services: 2021/22

Yorktown’s Shelter for women provides a safe haven for women and children who are fleeing domestic violence. Our goal is to provide women facing this decision a transitional home and the support they require to become equipped to move on to successfully begin new lives, free from abuse. In many ways, 2021/22 picked up right where 2020/21 left off. The theme that describes 2021/22 is “Reimagining”—a commitment to hope entwined with tenacious resilience. The pandemic necessitated the reimagining of new ways to interact with clients and the community.

2021/22 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Recognition Night October 26th, 2022

On the evening of October 26th, 2022, Yorktown Family Services held our Virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Recognition Night. The event featured the theme Reimagining, which encompassed Yorktown’s resilient perseverance in overcoming the many challenges of the past year. The evening celebrated the many accomplishments and successes of the fiscal year from April 1st, 2021 to March 31st, 2022. The 2021/22 AGM was held virtually to ensure the safety of staff, students, volunteers, board members, partners and special guests.  The evening’s program included special tributes, recognition of contributions made by partners and donors, as well as the presentation of an array of awards to staff, clients and volunteers.

Storwell Self Storage Offers an Annual Bursary of $2,000 to Assist Foster Children Pursue Post-Secondary Education

Along with providing accessible and affordable self-storage units, Storwell is also devoted to helping out the local community through various charitable causes and social initiatives. In response to the growing number of foster children and youth in care that struggle to afford post-secondary studies, Storwell has developed the Storwell Foster Children Bursary Program. Storwell offers an annual bursary of $2,000 to help foster children attend post-secondary schools and to offer a hand-up as they make their way forward in life.

100 Women Who Care Support Violence Against Women Services

100 Women Who Care is a “passionate group of women committed to supporting our community”. A member of the Toronto West chapter and Yorktown supporter, Debbie Hawkey, nominated Yorktown’s Violence Against Women Shelter and Services to be the beneficiary of the funds raised at the April 2022 Meeting where a total of $9,700 was raised.

RBC Recognizes that supporting the mental health of Canadian youth is fundamental to the success of our communities and our collective future. Yorktown has honoured RBC Foundation through our Community Partnership Award for its support of the Care Navigation program during the 2020/21 fiscal year.
