2016 Humanitarian Award for Community Service

For the past 16 years, the Yorktown Family Services Humanitarian Award for Community Service has been presented to deserving philanthropists at the Tribute Dinner, Yorktown’s most significant fundraising event. The 17th annual Tribute Dinner in Honor of Megan and Brian Porter was held on May 4th 2016 at the new Scotiabank Centre bringing together Ontario’s political, corporate and community leaders to celebrate the presentation of the Award.

The Yorktown Community joined together with the Tribute Dinner Committee Co-chairs, Salah Bachir and Andrew and Valerie Pringle in recognizing Megan and Brian Porter on May 4th, 2016. As individuals and as a couple, the Porters have supported, and continue to support, numerous initiatives that focus on mental health, health care, research and education. Their continued generous investments of time and financial contributions help to bring positive change to Canadian communities, benefiting us all.

By helping to elevate awareness of Yorktown’s two charities, Yorktown Child and Family Centre and Yorktown Shelter for Women, Megan and Brian are making it possible for Yorktown to continue to offer innovative, evidence-based programs to children, youth, women and families in one of Ontario’s most under-resourced communities.

The award was presented to Megan and Brian at a gala dinner held at the new Scotiabank Centre located on the 2nd floor of the Scotia Plaza building in Toronto on May 4th. Similar to years passed, we had over 300 guests representing government, business, academic, social services, and legal communities to join the celebration. The evening was enjoyed by all and include a cocktail reception, dinner, and entertainment.

We at Yorktown have immense gratitude for Megan and Brian Porter, and all of our past Honorees. Yorktown has been bringing positive change to marginalized and under-resourced communities for over two decades. We cannot do this important work without them, and without you.
