Life Skills Youth Coach- CHOICES Program

Volunteer Title: Life Skills Youth Coach- CHOICES Program

Length of Volunteer:   6   months

Location: West  Toronto Youth Hub – 1541 Jane Street.

Expected Start Date: Ongoing

Yorktown Family Services is a community-based non-profit social services agency dedicated to providing effective, accessible, quality mental health treatment, prevention and out-reach services to children, youth women and families in the former City of York. We are uniquely organized to deliver services through two independent but integrated organizations:

Primary Function:

Life Skills Youth Coaches are a positive role model to empower, and motivate youth to make informed and relevant decisions in their lives about effects of various substances. Assist with the facilitation of CHOICES Program for youth ages 12-17 years. Volunteers are required to a minimum time commitment of 3 hours a week for 11 weeks.


  • Support youth to follow program guidelines by role-modelling pro-social behaviours 
  • Interact with participants, Program Coordinator and other volunteers in an appropriate mature manner through table discussions/check-ins
  • Facilitate, and provide feedback to youth during each session using the CHOICES manual
  • Manage table group, and table talks with youth participants 
  • Engage, encourage and conduct goal-setting with youth
  • Completing CHOICES program evaluations

Skills &Qualifications: 

  • Be over the age of 21 years
  • Police reference check and two references are required 
  • Complete and Return Choices Volunteer Application
  • Attend Mandatory Training/Orientation session(s)
  • Enjoy interacting, engaging, and encouraging youth
  • Good communication skills in particular, listening skills
  • Willingness to learn and teach others
  • Reliability,Punctuality, and Enthusiasm
