Development Generalist


Job Title:          Development Generalist

Salary:               $47,320.00 (35hrs/wk./FTE 1.0)

Location-           Head Office

 Yorktown Family Services provides a comprehensive range of mental health services for children, youth and families who are experiencing serious emotional/social/behavioural difficulties along with several gender based violence initiatives. Yorktown is seeking a detail oriented, dedicated, self-motivated individual to support fundraising, development, and communications initiatives. This role offers some flexibility to work from home, for the right candidate. The incumbent will demonstrate a high level of professional motivation; sound ethical practices; superior written and verbal communication skills; and a high degree of project management expertise.

Duties are performed under the supervision and guidance of the Director of Development and Communications and may include some evening and possible weekend work:


Donor Database Administration

  • Data entry; data maintenance
  • Receipting
  • Pull distribution lists; list segmentation
  • Tracking moves management; provides donor support
  • Generating reports; assists with financial reconciliation
  • Experience with CRM databases is required

Coordination of Bingo Fundraising Program 

  • Scheduling
  • Orientation of new participants
  • Monitoring monthly reports and permit renewals
  • Tracking expenses


  • Prospect research and tracking
  • Monthly activity
  • Assist with proposal and fundraising material creation and submission
  • Experience with Grant Advance or similar is an asset


  • Collaborating on communication pieces including copy writing and sourcing photos (blogs, press releases, Annual Report, etc.)
  • Community Relations; attending events and coordinating in-kind donations
  • Website edits and up-dates utilizing word press (training will be provided)

Tribute Dinner Support 

  • Creating marketing material
  • Outreach
  • Tracking ticket, table, sponsorship sales and donation; invoicing
  • Assist with on-site execution
  • Liaise with suppliers
  • Assist with post event recognition plan creation and execution


  • 3+ years of work experience in a not for profit environment and education will be considered;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Experience in call centre or phone sales is an asset;
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access); specifically creating mail merges, generating reports, up-dating templates, etc.;
  • CRM database experience is required
  • Experience with Grant Advance, Canada Helps, Gift Tools (or similar) and/or Word Press are assets;
  • Experience in photography is an asset
  • Experience executing or supporting events; including e-marketing;
  • Ability to work closely with others to achieve group targets;
  • Valid driver’s license/access to a vehicle is an asset;
  • Highly organized and resourceful; able to handle multiple tasks within short timelines;
  • Self-motivated, strong personal initiative and ownership;
  • Compassion and understanding for the services we provide and the clients we serve;
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations, demonstrate poise, tact and diplomacy
  • Analytical and problem solving skills and proven ability to research and summarize information
  • Professional and confident demeanor
