Parenting Programs

COPE Parenting Program:

COPE is an evidence-based, 10 week Parenting program for parents/caregivers of children birth to 6 years. The program focuses on child development, developing age appropriate expectations and intervention, encouraging positive child development through praise and setting appropriate limits. COPE Children's activity/skill building groups run in conjunction with the parenting program and are offered to children birth to 12 years. Children work on such themes as sharing, listening, problem solving and finding appropriate and safe ways to express and manage anger. The COPE Parenting Program and Children's Program are part of an inter-agency collaboration called Program Without Walls.

Spanish COPE Parenting Program:

Spanish COPE is offered to Spanish speaking parents/caregivers of children birth to 6 years. The focus of the program is to help parents establish different discipline techniques, develop an understanding of child development, and explore a wide range of issues such as sibling rivalry, conflict resolution and self-esteem.

Finding Solutions Parenting Program:

Finding Solutions is a 10 week parenting program and is offered to parents/caregivers of children 7 to 18 years. The program includes four main components: understanding child development, identifying parenting strategies that are currently working, developing prevention strategies and establishing safe and positive interventions to manage more challenging child behaviours.

York Early Years - Wilcox COPE:

Wilcox COPE is a parenting program and children's skill building/activity program offered to families with a child(ren) birth to 6 years, living in the J.R. Wilcox School Community. Children's skill building/activity groups run in conjunction with the parenting program.

Ontario Early Years Centre

As a partner with the Ontario Early Years Davenport Perth Neighbourhood Centre, and Ontario Early Years Macaulay Child development Centre, Yorktown offers a wide range of parenting programs and workshops addressing the diverse needs of families of children birth to 6 years.

Ontario Early Years Parent-Child Drop In:

As a partner with the Ontario Early Years Davenport Perth Neighbourhood Centre, Yorktown offers two parent-child drop-ins for parents/caregivers and their child birth to age 6 years. The drop-ins are offered at the Yorktown Child and Family Centre and Beatrice House.

Daryeelka Qoyska - Somali Outreach and Education Project:

Daryeelka Qoyska is a parenting program for Somali families. The program offers a mother's group that is offered over a 10 week period. The program has been modified to reflect the culture, religion and language of the Somali Community, while focusing on such themes as parenting in Canada, understanding child development, and helping children succeed in school. The program also offers single parenting workshops for Somali speaking fathers twice a year at different locations in the former City of York. A children's component offered to preschool aged children, runs in conjunction with the parenting program and focuses on such themes as listening and sharing.
