Valerie Pringle to Receive Yorktown Humanitarian Award

Each year, Yorktown Family Services is pleased to honour a very special individual to receive the Yorktown Family Services Humanitarian Award for Community Service. This prestigious award is presented to a person whose lifetime of outstanding dedication, leadership and contributions have had a significant impact on helping to improve the lives of children, youth and women in Canada. The Award is presented to the honoree at the Yorktown Family Services Tribute Dinner Celebration at a gala event where representatives from government, business and the community gather to honour the award recipient. Radio personality Andy Barrie will be the Master of Ceremonies for the evening that will include a special musical tribute by Natalie MacMaster.

Past Tribute Dinner events have raised $965,000 in revenues that have been used to support Yorktown's innovative initiatives designed to build leaders of tomorrow - community members who are involved, engaged and successful in one of Ontario's poorest and most culturally diverse communities.

The 2010 Award recipient is Valerie Pringle one of Canada's best known media personalities and most acclaimed, and respected broadcasters. Beyond her celebrity status Valerie Pringle is passionate about helping others and the majority of her time is devoted to volunteer work with a number of not for profit organizations including the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Canada Post Foundation for Mental Health and Mental Illness, Women's College Hospital and the Trans Canada Trail. The mother of a daughter who suffers from anxiety and panic attacks, Valerie leverages her celebrity status and communication skills to bring awareness to mental health issues and remove the stigma that surrounds those suffering from mental illness in Canada

In accepting the award, Valerie Pringle will join a distinguished group of Canadians who exemplify humanitarian values in their dedication to helping others. These past award recipients include formidable Canadian leaders: The Honourable Michael Kirby, Margot Franssen, The Honourable Margaret Norrie McCain, June Callwood, Barbara Hall, Charlie Coffey, Charles Pascal, David Crombie, The Honourable Bob and Arlene Perly Rae and Fergie Brown.

The award will be presented at a gala dinner to be held in Ms. Pringle's honour on April 22, 2010, at The Arcadian Court in Toronto. As in past years, we expect over 300 guests representing all levels of government and the voluntary sector, as well as the business and academic communities.
